Regional Hospital
This UK regional hospital required business support in three areas; 1. the development and implementation of ‘Service Line Reporting’ and ‘Patient Level Costing’ across the hospital, 2. as part of its senior management team for Orthopaedics and Critical Care, 3. in identifying and realising savings across the trust.
The Journey
1. Service Line Reporting and Patient Level Costing
- Worked closely with the finance team and software provider to ensure the financial integrity of the reporting system.
- Ensured the accurate assignment of direct costs and the complex apportionment of indirect costs using a wide selection of non-financial datasets from across the hospital.
- Liaised with Technology, Clinical and Management teams to build support for the project.
2. Business support for Orthopaedics and Critical Care
- Worked as part of the four person Directorate Management team reporting to the Executive Board.
- Met with all budget holders to manage the financial position and to approve business cases.
- Supported the successful negotiation to deliver Community Theatres in four towns.
3. Efficiency savings
- Worked with the Directorate Manager and Clinical teams to identify and deliver efficiencies across 20 operating theatres.

- New reporting at Service Level and Patient Level
- Better informed Executive and Senior Manager decision making
- Continuity of financial management
- New Community hospitals funded and implemented
- Efficiency savings identified and realised
